Boundaries is about the US border policy of family separation. The newspaper articles are from recent coverage when this issue was most controversial. The bird, a quetzal, is the national bird of Guatemala. The Quetzal is symbol of liberty. The lore surrounding the quetzal, as it was told to me, is that it dies in captivity.
